What are you trying to solve?

Most families arrive with a symptom. We use that symptom to identify the skill gap, then show which program is built for that need.

Falling behind in class

Grades dropping, essay avoidance, vague written answers

When English grades drop, the cause is often an earlier skill gap that has not been named yet. We use the assessment to identify whether the issue is comprehension, structure, grammar, or vocabulary, then build from that point.

Writing is weak

Short essays, missing argument, weak evidence

Students who write vague essays often know what they want to say, but do not yet have a structure for saying it. We teach paragraph-level organization first, then move into essay-level writing.

Reads but doesn't comprehend

Fluent decoding, weak summary or inference

A student can read words correctly and still miss the meaning. We target main idea, inference, author purpose, and text-level understanding directly.

Preparing for middle school

Grade 5 student heading into higher English expectations

Middle school English expects structured paragraphs, evidence from text, and independent revision. We build those habits before the transition becomes stressful.

Doing well and ready for more

Strong student, advanced writing or analysis goals

For students already on track, we deepen essay complexity, literary analysis, multi-source arguments, and sentence control so strong skills keep compounding.

Needs year-round structure

Does well with support, slips without a routine

A defined 3-month program gives students a weekly rhythm, measurable skills, and parent progress updates without turning English into open-ended tutoring.

How it works

Every program starts with a diagnostic. Not a placement test - a pattern finder.

45 minutes before the first session. No charge. No commitment.

01

Free

45-minute assessment

We map reading comprehension, writing structure, grammar patterns, and vocabulary range to find the real gap, not just the subject label.

02

Placement

Program fit and entry point

Assessment results help clarify current reading and writing level, so families can choose the right program and start at an appropriate skill entry point.

03

3-month program

Defined curriculum and progress updates

Students attend 120 minutes per week. Families receive progress updates on skills covered, writing growth, and recommended next steps.

Common questions

English program FAQs

Do I have to commit to 3 months upfront?

English Mastery and Essay Writing Focus use a 3-month program structure. That gives enough time to assess, teach the primary gap, build consistent habits, and verify progress. Young Authors is a separate fixed 12-session cohort.

Is Young Authors the same as English Mastery?

No. English Mastery is the core grades 1-8 English program covering reading comprehension, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and essay skills. Young Authors is a separate creative writing program for grades 3-5.

How much does Young Authors cost?

Young Authors is $295 total for a fixed 12-session cohort. Contact GrowWise for the current schedule and availability.

Can my child join English Mastery mid-year?

Yes. English Mastery starts monthly. The assessment helps identify the right grade band and entry point regardless of where the school year is.

What is the difference between elementary and middle school English?

Elementary English focuses on reading comprehension, paragraph writing, grammar mechanics, and vocabulary. Middle school English builds toward essay writing, literary analysis, argument structure, and evidence integration.

Is this in-person or online?

Both. In-person sessions are available at the GrowWise Dublin, CA center, and live online sessions are available nationwide. Both formats use small groups and the same curriculum standards.

What if my child is between grade levels?

Placement is based on the assessment, not only the grade on a report card. We match the student to the right skill entry point while keeping the grade band appropriate.

Not sure where to start?

A free 45-minute assessment identifies the real gap, places your child in the right program, and gives you a concrete plan before you pay anything.
